Romania’s top goalscorer and main striker, Florin Raduciou, was also suspended because of yellow cards accumulation.
With so much talent missing from this game, it was expected to be a dull match, but the 22 players that entered the field gave us the best match of that World Cup and a quality in play - from the first minute to the last - that is extremly rare.

July, 1994. At the World Cup in the US, Bulgaria performs brilliantly, reaching the semi finals. Outside Bulgaria, the English are particularly amazed, all the way up to the then Prime Minister John Major — when Jordan Letckow’s flying header in New York “kicked out” Germany. A day to remember: 10 July 1994.
In England, and across the UK, Bulgaria has never been as popular as in that summer of 1994. And less popular, perhaps, in Germany…
